Week 28

This is really late but for week 28 (at least when we had it!) we decided to add a little twist on our Man of the Week. Two little twists now I come to think of it, actually:

1. It’s not just one man, but rather several that we’ve catagorised.

2. They’re not real men, so to speak, but rather illustrations that are voiced by real men. It sounds a lot creepier than it actually is, trust me.

So this week, we decided to go for our Disney Prince Week in which we combined our favourite Princes which were defined as not only has good looks but also a likeable personality.

So, in no particular order, here are the Princes! :

1. Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid is one that most of us love (bar those odd few that think he has no personality! For a Disney Prince in a film revolving around the Disney Princess, he very much has a personality!) Anyhoo, this lovely chappy was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes back in 1989 who, by the way, does have a lovely sounding voice! It’s kind of hoarse at times like when a teenage boy’s voice is breaking…okay, that created a better image in my head but nevermind. I’m sure many of us, like Ariel, fell in love with Eric as soon as we saw him playing with his dog, Max- Man and his best friend, eh? Oh and the gorgeous flute playing in his longing for Ariel! One of my favourite lines of his has to be “Aah Grimsby, you old beanpole! You shouldn’t have!”

Fun little fact for you: Drew Seeley played Prince Eric in a theatre adaptation of The Little Mermaid!

2.”I am Prince Naveen, of Maldonia” – Too right he is! And don’t you forget it! Gosh, where do I even start?! What’s not to love about this exotic beauty? After all, he is “charming and handsome, cutting a rug!” And he’s ever so quotable. Not to mention his good looks in both human and frog form. This Prince (along with one other) has to be the most charismatic and loveable Prince out of all of them, which is probably due to the fact that he plays more of a role in the story than the others.

“Kissing would be nice, yes?”

My friend and I are Disney obsessed and Naveen is possibly the character we quote the most just because he has such fantastic lines! And he’s so excellently voiced by Bruno Campos with the accent that’s a bit here-there-and-everywhere. But “is beautiful, no?”

"Get your slimy self away from me!" "It is not slime! It is mucus!"

 3. Unfortunately Prince Phillip isn’t so widely recognised but is probably one of the most charming Princes, particularly out of all the older Disney movies. He is the Prince from Sleeping Beauty and is perhaps the first one to show some real personality as opposed to the others being the happy endings of the stories. And he has some pretty funny lines as well as wonderfully romantic ones! “Now Father, you’re living in the past. This is the 14th Century!” Aah good ol’ Disney humour…And a fun little fact for you, this Prince (voice by Bill Shirley) was named after Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh! Now fancy that!

Doesn't he just look lovely?

 4. The next one is Prince Adam. “Who?!” you might wonder? Yes, I thought so. You may know him better as the Beast from none other than Beauty and the Beast. Of course, his first appearance when he saw Maurice in his chair did terrify me somewhat but his temper became rather amusing later when even his crockery and ornament servants would give him a good ol’ telling off about it. Robby Benson was chosen to voice this Prince as the filmakers felt that he was the only one of the contenders that sounded both fearsome and tender. They said “you could hear the prince beneath the fur” (thank you to Wikipedia!).

The Beauty and the Beast within himself...

 5. This one doesn’t talk so much in the first film, only in the sequel (haven’t seen the threequel so I’m not too sure about that one). Anyhoo, we couldn’t have a Prince Week without the famous Prince Charming. And no, it is not Prince Charming from Shrek or Enchanted- the first one isn’t Disney and the second one isn’t animated (although they both are hilarious). I’m talking about Cinderella‘s Prince Charming. I think Cinderella was my favourite Disney storybook when I was a child; it isn’t one of my favourite Disney movies now, but I also had only some of the films when I was younger and it was only when I was about 10ish that I got tons of the other videos like Beauty and the Beast  and The Little Mermaid. Anyhoo, getting off-track. Prince Charming (played by William Phipps) was relatively charming considering the lack of lines that he had. I find it quite amusing how his father, the King (Luis Van Rooten), had more character and more lines than him! And Van Rooten was credited whilst neither the speaking or voice actors for Prince Charming were! Having said that, not many were credited- not even the voice for Anastasia, actually.

Forgive me for the sickly background and the presence of the Princess- this was the only decent picture of him that I could find where he wasn't half asleep or blurry.

 6. Someone pointed out to me that this one isn’t actually a Prince, however! I found a loophole. He marries a Princess at the end and thus becomes a Prince. Therefore, he is eligable for Prince Week. His name is Flynn Rider! Or Eugene Fitzherbert, whichever you prefer. He is the second of the two Princes I said earlier that have lots of personality and charisma. Being a modern Prince, he plays much more of a role in the story and so had tons of wonderful lines!

Gah, the smile!

“That’s a lot of hair” “She’s growing it out.” Aah Flynn…not only are his lines witty, but there are some very sweet ones: “You were my new dream.”

I have a chameleon's tongue in my ear. Casual.

I think the voice of Zachary Levi was just perfect; I like to watch Chuck with my Father dearest, you see, so you can imagine my excitement when I found out he was going to be in Tangled.

I'm really trying not to get carried away with pictures but this moment was just hilarious! Gotta love Maximus 🙂

The song for this week is obviously going to be Disney (which reminds me, I need to go buy the Now Disney CD!) and I’ve chosen a song I’m obsessed with at the moment; it’s from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which I only just watched a couple of days ago (disgraceful, I know!) but the music to that film is just incredible- hats off to Alan Menken yet again. ‘The Bells of Notre Dame’ is the chosen song and it never fails to give be goosebumps so well done to Paul Kendel who sung it ever so magnificently.  So that’s the end of our Princes! I hope you enjoyed reading!
